Swedish Erotica 281 - Ski Bunnies, Part 1

 

This loop was shot in 1979 and is also known as Snow Bunnies, Part 1. The quality isn't great but I've never been able to find a better version. It's one of the few time we get to see Seka having anal sex. There is a great close-up as Paul Thomas slides his cock into her ass as she sucks off David Morris.

Paul Thomas is one of the most famous and iconic porn stars of the 1970s and early 1980s. He came from a wealthy upper middle class family in Illinois that owned household-name businesses, such as Sara Lee and Jim Beam.

After studying political science at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, he turned to acting and joined the cast of Hair as it toured Chicago and New York.  He then auditioned for the Broadway musical Jesus Christ Superstar in New York and became the understudy to Jesus and played the High Priest. In 1973, after touring the play across the country, Paul Thomas and Carl Anderson (who played Judas) were both asked to audition for the upcoming film version of the musical. Both were successful and Thomas was given the role of Peter. 

Paul Thomas then moved to Hollywood to further his mainstream career. Although he appeared in a couple of TV shows, he struggled with the competition.

"I was now competing for major films with major stars like Michael Douglas and Michael Moriarty, and I didn't get them. They got them. They were better actors than I was. And I wasn't studying the way I should have been studying. You can only go so far on natural talent."

He eventually moved to San Francisco in 1974 and got a role in the musical Beach Blanket Babylon, which became the world's longest-running musical revue (1974-2019). While there he alternated between stage-work and flying down to Los Angeles to appear in TV shows and commercials.

"I got involved in X rated movies because the Mitchell Brothers came to see the show Beach Blanket Babylon and I met them. San Francisco was the epicenter of the adult movie industry. I got to know them a little bit. They got to understand how much I enjoyed pornography and they were doing a movie called The Autobiography of a Flea (1976) and they offered me the lead role. It was a 100 page script, $1,000 a day and gorgeous women. I did it because I didn't have the confidence that I could compete at the highest level of acting. I had the talent but didn't have the dedication to maintain it. And also, I was a sex monster. When I discovered that I could express myself in X rated movies, it was amazing. This was a community that embraced me. For the first time I had a feeling that this is where I belong. This is what I should be doing."

Over the next decade Paul Thomas appeared in hundreds of adult movies and loops, including classics such as Desires Within Young Girls (1977), Hard Soap Hard Soap (1977), Reflections (1977), Dracula Sucks (1978) and Pretty Peaches (1978). In the mid-1980s he moved behind the camera and started directing porn films. 

Swedish Erotica 242 - Afternoon Snacks

This loop was released in 1979. It's the fourth she made for Swedish Erotica and the first in which she appeared with Desiree Cousteau. This loop is silent.

Desiree Cousteau began her adult career by posing nude in the June 1974 edition of Penthouse, under the title ‘Georgia Girl’. She was 17 at the time and still in college. Soon after she quit college and moved to Los Angeles with her boyfriend to be a movie star. 

“I discovered that you had to do a lot of fucking behind the scenes to get in front of the camera. Everybody’s ‘friend’ wants to meet you and ball you, and they expect you to do that.”

Despite securing minor roles in B’ movie exploitation films like Caged Heat (1974) and Super Lady (1975), her mainstream career never took off and she was soon working as a nude model and stripper to support herself.

“I worked for Alex [De Renzy] at his club called ‘The Playpen’. I was dancing there with three other girls – we put on a live sex show. We did a lesbian thing. Sometimes it was simulated on stage, and sometimes we did the real thing. He asked me if I’d like to make a movie, and so we made Pretty Peaches (1978). That was my first starring role. It wasn’t exactly the kind of movie star I was hoping to become.” 

Pretty Peaches was a big success and quickly made Desiree a star, but she always felt conflicted about doing porn.

Seka later said: “Desiree Cousteau was an interesting character. Very pretty. She had a tight body to die for, with a pair of early implants. But she was another one who was absolutely wacko nuts. She could be hot and heavy in the middle of a scene with a dick in one hand and a mouth full of pussy, when all of a sudden there was a look on her face and a total change would come over her. ‘I can’t do this anymore. God told me not to.’ She’d just stop what she was doing and walk off the set. A few minutes later she might come back and start the scene all over again, or sometimes she’d just disappear entirely. This happened several times. She was just crazy!”

The last movie Desiree made was Inside Desiree Cousteau (1979), but other movies such as Delicious (1981) and Center Spread Girls (1982) were still being released long after she had left the industry.

Numerous rumours began circulating as to what she did after leaving porn. Some said that she started a family and lived as a housewife, others that she had a nervous breakdown and was institutionalised. The most recent rumour was that she went back to college and completed a degree in psychology and now practices in her native Georgia.

 

Swedish Erotica 237 - Aunt Peg's Big Interview

This is the second loop Seka made for Swedish Erotica in 1978. Like most loops by this label it has been used in numerous compilations over the years. Her co-stars here are the legendary Jamie Gillis and Juliet Anderson (who used the name Aunt Peg in a lot of her loops). 

Jamie Gillis had spent most of the 1960s travelling around Europe as a mime artist before going to college and becoming a stage actor in New York. In 1971 saw an advertisement in the Village Voice for nude actor work.

"I was driving a cab around that time to make money, and also working theater at night. It was hectic and it was hard to do all that. So I was looking for something easy to do for a couple hours during the day. I picked up the Village Voice looking for a part time job. I thought I’d do something like packing boxes, anything, and I saw this ad under ‘part time jobs’. I thought why not?"

"That was placed by Bob Wolfe. He filmed 8mm hardcore sex loops in a dirty basement on 14th St. I responded, and my career in porn films started. I still did plays from time to time, but in truth, there was no going back."

Gillis, along with with actors like Harry Reems and Marc Stevens, is considered one of the original pioneers of the New York porn inductry. He was there at the beginning.

 

 

Juliet in the 1960s

Juliet Anderson grew up in a middle class family in Burbank, California. After graduating from California State in Long Beach with a major in Art and a minor in English, she worked a series of jobs before leaving America in the early sixties to teach English in Mexico, Japan and eventually Europe. She moved to Greece in the late 1960s and had a romantic relationship with the Greek politician Alexander Papadogonas. In 1971, she settled in Finland where she worked for the Finnish Broadcasting Company as a radio programmer until 1977.

She moved to San Francisco in 1977, where she hoped to resume her radio career, but opportunities proved thin on the ground. The following year she met Alex de Renzy, who was also producing porn films. Juliet was a broad-minded woman with a high sex drive, and it didn't take much convincing for her to investigate this option.

"I was so impressed with what a gentleman he was. He did not put the make on me at all. He was bright, he was sweet. I thought, 'What a nice man'. He didn’t even ask to look at my breasts! He trusted his assistant, he just looked at the schedule and asked when I could start work."

Her first movie was Pretty Peaches in 1978 where she had sex with John Leslie.

"So about twelve hours later the phone started ringing off the hook from all the producers in Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay area. Everyone from the 16mm loops to the 35mm films; I was like hot property!"

Swedish Erotica 291 - Spring Vacation

Seka's co-stars in this 1979 loop are David Morris and Joan Thomas. 

David Morris was originally part of the New York porn scene and had already been in the industry for three years. By 1979 he was at the peak of his popularity, having starred in classic films such as Odyssey (1977), Debbie Does Dallas (1978), Here Comes The Bride (1978) and Fantasy (1979). Perhaps his most famous scene is from Insatiable (1980) when he fucks Marilyn Chambers on the pool table. He was never a A' list porn star, and by the early 1980s started to fade away. 

Morris was bisexual, having already appeared as a 'bottom' in the 1978 loop Special Delivery (Fantasy Playhouse #110) when he was fucked by R.J. Reynolds. By the mid-1980s he was appearing mainly in bi or gay movies. He died of a drug overdose in 1999.

Not much is known about Joan Thomas. She appeared in a few loops between 1979-1980 for Swedish Erotica and Diverse Industries, then vanished.

Swedish Erotica 235 - Happy Reunion

This is the first Swedish Erotica loop Seka made in 1978. Her co-star is Mike Ranger. Between 1978 and 1982, Seka appeared in over 30 Swedish Erotica 8mm porn loops. She later said:

"I was doing so many scenes for them, I started being known in the industry and even among the fans as Miss Swedish Erotica. At one point, Swedish Erotica even gave me that title officially, like it was another beauty contest I had won."

The Swedish Erotica series had nothing to do with Sweden. It was originally launched by Caballero Control Corporation in 1974. The first 19 loops shot that year for the series were all directed by the legendary maverick director Ed Wood. Wood is famous for making the 1957 cult classic Plan 9 from Outer Space that was labelled the "Worst Film Ever" by The Golden Turkey Awards in 1980. In 1994, Tim Burton made a film about the director's life with Johnny Depp in the starring role.

Almost 600 titles were eventually made by Swedish Erotica before the series ended in 1984.
